Getting your boat licence in Saint-Tropez is one of the most rewarding ways to spend a day on the water. You learn to navigate on the actual waters where you will be sailing, in a setting that makes even the theory feel worthwhile. Octopussy has been training candidates for the coastal and offshore boat licence from the Quai Claude Meiffret for over 30 years.
The coastal boat licence: what it covers
The French coastal boat licence allows you to navigate a motorboat up to 6 nautical miles from a shelter in daytime conditions. It covers the vast majority of day sailing in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez: all the coves between Saint-Tropez and Cap Camarat, Pampelonne, Briande and the Esterel are within this limit.
Training with Octopussy: how it works
Training at Octopussy is individual: one candidate per session with a dedicated instructor. Total duration: 5 to 8 hours, of which at least 2 hours are spent on the water in the gulf. Theory covers the rules of the road, navigation lights, radio communications and safety. The practical session covers manoeuvring, mooring, anchoring and emergency procedures.
Rate and validity
The complete coastal boat licence training costs 550 euros all-inclusive. The licence is valid for 5 years and can be renewed. Training is available in French and English. Registration on request.
