Getting your boat licence in Saint-Tropez is one of the most rewarding ways to spend a day on the water. You learn to navigate on the actual waters where you will be sailing, in a setting that makes even the theory feel worthwhile. The coastal boat licence: what it covers
The French coastal boat licence, known as the permis cotier, allows you to navigate a motorboat up to 6 nautical miles from a shelter in daytime conditions. It covers the vast majority of day sailing in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez: all the coves between Saint-Tropez and Cap Camarat, Pampelonne, Briande and the Esterel are within this limit.
Training with Octopussy: how it works
Training at Octopussy is individual: one candidate per session with a dedicated instructor. The total duration is 5 to 8 hours, of which at least 2 hours are spent on the water in the gulf. The theory covers the rules of the road, navigation lights, radio communications and safety. The practical session covers manoeuvring, mooring, anchoring and emergency procedures.
Rate and validity
